Audra Bowers Voice Studio
In my studio, I encourage singers to set strong goals, sing with an explorer’s mindset, and be open to new discoveries along the way. This is what I believe results in wholehearted singers.
My job is to work with singers as an uplifting guide to help them achieve their goals and enjoy the process!

Teaching Philosophy
Singing is both physical and highly emotional. Therefore, the overall goal of my teaching is to assist singers in fostering a flexible, reliable, and sustainable instrument that will serve as the foundation for free, expressive, and authentic singing. I use evidence-based pedagogy to provide my students with the necessary tools and knowledge to become confident and independent singers. My greatest hope is that my students will not always feel that they need me! In my teaching, I ask many questions and draw attention to the physical sensations of singing. This helps singers gain a deeper understanding of their own voice and holds them accountable for their own learning. I am simply their guide in this journey.
Singing is unique because we often associate the sounds we make with our identity. If we are not careful, we might be tempted to associate our artistry and our voice with our self-worth. This is why my approach to teaching is process-oriented, meaning that we work to achieve progress, rather than a product. The goal that I encourage my students to set for themselves is to simply “be curious”. Rather than filtering and placing value on the sounds we make, I encourage students to play and make all kinds of sounds! The joy is in the process!

In order to foster this type of environment, I am committed to creating a safe space where we are able to work and explore. Every person that walks through the door has a different lived experience, which is what makes us all unique and beautiful. As a fellow singer, I know what it is like to be the student on the other side of the piano. It requires immense courage and vulnerability. I take the safety and comfort of my students very seriously. It is my job to provide support and encouragement throughout the process. I work hard to ensure that I find repertoire that aligns with the student’s identity and goals as well as teach in a way that is comfortable and beneficial for each unique individual.
In summary, I believe that singing should be emotional, expressive, and stylistically accurate. At the heart of this is efficient and sustainable technique. How do we learn to do all of these things with our voices? We set goals, create safe and student-centered environments, and first and foremost, we trust the process.
